St. Mary's Thrift Shop
"You can't pull yourself up by the bootstraps if you don't have a pair of boots."
In August, 1999, Cynthia Sosnowski and Josee Rich watched as yet another house on the 7 Mile Beach was torn down with all of its contents inside destined for a landfill ... and the concept of Heavenly Scavengers was born.
|Heavenly Scavengers is located within St. Mary's Thrift Shop.
Call the shops to arrange for a pick up, if you have a demolition scheduled, or drop off your donations between
10 AM and 3 PM.
The mission of Heavenly Scavengers is to "rescue" household furniture and items in good condition from houses about to be demolished on the 7 Mile Beach and get them to people in need.
In the more than fifteen years that Heavenly Scavengers has been in existence, household furnishings and resources have been provided for hundreds of people. Beds for children, dressers for homeless families able to finally move into housing, kitchen tables for elderly residents moving into assisted living facilities, sturdy dining room chairs for group homes, and whole households of furnishings for families whose homes have been destroyed by fire, all free and all with no obligation. And these items have been kept out of the landfills.
St. Mary's was nominated by the Cape May County Chamber of Commerce for its 16th Annual Conservaton Award for its work with Heavenly Scavengers over the years.
